\title "Creating New Catalogs"
\next "mcat_ld"
\prev ""
The catalog system in Imagemaster allows you to create multiple catalogs in
various directories. The first step in creating a new catalog is to decide
on the directory where the catalog will reside. This can be any valid
directory on your system, but you may find it easier to create a new
directory or use the existing IMCAT: directory provided by Imagemaster.
After you have decided which directory is to be used, enter the catalog
screen. Now, select the \{ \ts b Other \} button from the main catalog
screen. This panel contains all of the controls you will need to create the
new catalog. The left hand side of the display will contain the current list
of available catalogs. The right hand side of the display contains the
controls for adding new catalogs, removing catalogs, and for sorting the
current list of catalogs. The next step is to select the \{ \ts b Add Entry
\} control. After selecting this control, Imagemaster will present you with
a file requester. You should use the file requester to specify the directory
path of the new catalog. For example, if the new catalog was to be placed in
an Images directory on the Work drive, you would specify \{ \ts b Work:Images
\} as the catalog directory. After you have specified the directory, select
\{ \ts b Done\} . The specified directory will now appear in the list of
catalogs on the right.
The new catalog can be accessed by simply clicking on the directory
specification, and then selecting the \{ \ts b Done \} button. Imagemaster
will then report that the current catalog contains no entries. Catalog
entries can be made using three different methods. The first method is to
simply add an entire directory of images to the catalog with the \{ \ts b Add
Dir \} button in the main catalog screen. This will add all of the
recognized image files in that directory. The second method is to copy \{
\ts b .icat \} files from a pre-existing catalog into the new catalog's
directory. The final method is to simply load images with the \{ \ts b Auto-Catalog \} button selected. This control will automatically add any image
that is loaded or saved into the current catalog.
At this time you should give your new catalog a title. This is accomplished
by pressing the \{ \ts b Title \} button, and then entering an appropriate
title for your catalog. Once you have done this, exit the catalog screen by
pressing the \{ \ts b Done \} button. The final step in catalog creation is
to save your defaults in the \{ \ts b Setup \} panel. Once the defaults have
been saved, Imagemaster will automatically place the new catalog in the
catalog list. The Setup panel also contains controls for specifying the
catalog that Imagemaster will start with, and for altering the title of the
currently selected catalog. It is important to remember that you should only
specify one catalog in a directory. Specifying more than one catalog in the
same directory will only be a waste of time and hard drive space.

\title "Load the Selected Image"
\next "mcat_done"
\prev "mcat_create"
This will load the currently selected catalog image. A catalog image is
selected by simply clicking on its picture or title. Once an image is
selected, it can then be loaded by pressing this button, or it can be removed
by selecting the \{ \ts b Remove \} button. After the image has been
selected for loading, Imagemaster will provide you with a prompt for placing
the new image buffer.

\title "Return without loading"
\next "mcat_rem"
\prev "mcat_ld"
This will exit the catalog without loading any selection. If you wish to load
a catalog entry, you must select the image, and then select the \{ \ts b Load
\} button.

\title "Remove catalog entry"
\next "mcat_can"
\prev "mcat_done"
This will remove a selected image from the catalog. This will delete the
image's \{ \ts b .icat \} file. Once an image has been removed, it will no
longer appear in the catalog. A removed image can be placed back into the
catalog by simply loading the image into Imagemaster, and then selecting the
\{ \ts b Add to Catalog \} button in the \{ \ts b Buffers \} panel.

\title "Return without selecting - Cancel operation"
\next "mcat_select"
\prev "mcat_rem"
This will exit the catalog without selecting a graphic buffer list image. An
image is selected by clicking on the image, and then pressing the \{ \ts b
Done \} button. An image can also be selected by double clicking on its
postage stamp image in the graphic buffer list.

\title "Choose selected image"
\next "mcat_title"
\prev "mcat_can"
This will choose the currently selected image for the current operation.
This control is used to make all of the Graphic Buffer List selections. The
list will appear whenever buffer selection is required by Imagemaster.

\prev "mcat_select"
This button will allow you to specify a title for the current catalog. You
may specify multiple catalogs all with different titles. The catalog title
will be saved with the catalog files, and will have a \{ \ts b .title \}
extension.

\prev "mcat_title"
This button will provide you with a list requester for selecting a catalog to
be used. There are also options for loading, deleting, and sorting the
catalogs. Once a catalog has been selected, it will remain current until a
new catalog is selected. You can make any catalog the default catalog by
selecting the \{ \ts b List of Catalogs \} option in the \{ \ts b Setup \}
panel. After you have selected the default catalog, you should save your
default settings.

\title "Add an Entire Directory"
\next "mcat_cache"
\prev "mcat_other"
This button allows you to add an entire directory of images to the current
catalog. If the selected directory contains files other than images, \{ \ts
b Imagemaster R/t \} will tell you that the file can not be loaded to the
catalog as an image file.

\title "Cache Catalog when loading"
\next "mcat_info"
\prev "mcat_add"
This button, when selected, will allow \{ \ts b Imagemaster R/t \} to use an
image cache when loading the catalog. The cache allows Imagemaster to keep
catalog pages resident in memory. This will allow for faster access to any
catalog pages which have been viewed in this Imagemaster session, but will
require slightly more memory than the non-cache mode. Turning the cache off
will force Imagemaster to load the entire catalog each time the catalog is
accessed. This can greatly reduce the speed that the catalog is accessed.
Imagemaster will defaults to the cache mode which is reccomended for most
users. If memory is a consideration, turn the cache off, and then save your
defaults in the \{ \ts b Settings \} panel.

\title "Exclude .info Files from the Catalog"

\prev "mcat_cache"

catalog entry. The default for this selection is not to include the \{ \ts b
.info \} files.
